Our family has ties to lands throughout Hawaii. Due to that and our diligence in participating in the mandated processes that exist to provide protection for cultural resources as the development of Hawaii moves forward, I have been honored to consult during the planning process on dozens of projects all over Hawaii both private and public.
As well we have actively taken to task entities responsible for damage to historical and cultural properties and individuals and then collaborated with those entities to restore the cultural landscape as best can be done and provide buffers from future damage. Our goal is to imbue our work with Hawaiian spirit and cultural significance, and that is our aim as we head to work each day. Following is a partial listing of work we have been involved in.
We have consulted and collaborated on dozens of projects throughout Hawaii, reinterred hundreds of individuals in the resting places where they had been discovered, working hand in hand with descendants, government and public and private developers to preserve the cultural landscape and protect the ancestors.
Ideally, the consultation process starts at the very beginning of a project before construction begins when plans are being developed and the archeological process is being contemplated. Realistically that doesn’t often happen. Cultural consultation is often seen as an adjunct of the archeological process and treated as such. Our contention is the sooner you instill the Hawaiian perspective into the process the better in terms of time, money and assurance.
Following is a partial list of those projects.
